Danelaw Village | Welcome to the Year 4 page - Summer 2010
It’s the Summer term and everyone in Year 4 is looking forward, with anticipation, to two EXCITING, annual events: Our Residential visit to York and The Oundle Primary School Production.
We are continuing with our unit of work called ‘Treasure’, which is based around archaeology. This unit will build towards our Residential visit to York to study the Vikings. The focus in this work will be History, DT and Art with some Geography. We will learn how archaeologists and historians find treasure and how they write about it. We will look at how different societies place value on different ‘treasures’. Do you have any ‘treasure’? Why not become an archaeologist at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/indusvalley or learn about the Vikings in preparation for our Residential trip in the Summer Term at: http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/Homework/Vikingsax.html

On our return from York, we will begin a unit of work entitled ‘Going for Gold’ based around sporting achievements and The Olympic Games. Learning objectives in History, Geography, Science, PE, Music and Art will be covered. We will learn about the different cultures of participants in the Olympic Games, we will investigate the history of the Games and the geography of host countries. In science we will learn about the human body, including the heart and how diet and exercise affects the body. To find out more, look at the official website for the London Olympics: http://www.london2012.com or at the British Olympic website: http://www.olympics.org.uk You could also learn about a healthy body at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/science/living_things/ by selecting the Health and Growth activities.
How much do you know about our class artists? If you have any information about Warhol and Van Gogh, please bring it into school and share it with the class. For a more detailed look at our work this term, please see our Summer Curriculum page.
